Over the past decade, the route into teaching within further education and skills has remained relatively stable, offering flexibility, accessibility, and a clear pathway for aspiring and in-service educators. However, we are now approaching a significant moment of change within the sector.
At Teacher Training UK, we believe it is important to be transparent about what lies ahead, not to create urgency for its own sake, but to ensure that those considering the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching (FE & Skills) can make an informed and timely decision.
A Programme Built Around Real Lives
Our current Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training has been carefully designed around the realities of modern life. Many of our trainees are balancing careers, family commitments, and professional aspirations. As a result, the programme has evolved to offer a highly flexible, online model, combining live interactive sessions with independent study and ongoing tutor support.
This flexibility has been transformative for many. It has enabled individuals across the UK, and beyond, to access high-quality teacher training without needing to relocate or significantly disrupt their existing commitments. It is a model that has opened doors.
Sector Changes: A Positive Shift, But With Implications
Recent developments from the Department for Education signal a shift back towards more structured, face-to-face elements in teacher training programmes. These changes are, in many ways, a positive step for the profession, strengthening consistency, standardisation, and the quality of training experiences across providers.
However, they do come with important implications. The programme, as it currently exists, is flexible, largely online, and nationally accessible, and is likely to be the final iteration of this model. From 2027 onwards, delivery is expected to include more face-to-face components, alongside broader structural changes. For some, this will enhance the experience. For others, particularly those who rely on the accessibility of online learning, it may present new challenges.
In addition, these changes will inevitably impact programme costs. For the past ten years, we have worked hard to maintain our fees at a level consistent with those of a decade ago. Despite rising operational costs, we have prioritised accessibility and affordability. Moving forward, this will no longer be sustainable, and a significant fee increase is expected for future cohorts.
A Window of Opportunity
For those who have been considering the Diploma, this creates a clear window of opportunity.
Our September 2026 cohort represents the final opportunity to access the programme in its current format, combining flexibility, national accessibility, and our longstanding fee structure. On top of this, we are currently offering an early bird discount, reducing the programme fee from £3,600 to £2,995.
This offer is available to those who register and secure their place with a deposit by 31st May.
We do not present this as a sales message, but rather as a practical consideration. If the current model is what makes the programme viable for you, whether due to location, work commitments, or financial planning, then now is the time to act.
What Makes the Programme Distinct
Beyond flexibility, the programme itself remains rooted in what matters most: developing confident, reflective, and research-informed teachers.
Trainees engage with key theories of learning, inclusive practice, curriculum design, and assessment, applying these directly within their own teaching contexts. The integration of theory and practice is central. This is not a qualification completed in isolation; it is something lived and enacted in real classrooms, with real learners.
Support is also a defining feature. From regular 1:1 tutorials to detailed developmental feedback, trainees are guided throughout their journey. Guest sessions from leading educational thinkers, including Matt Bromley, Professor Dylan Wiliam, and Andy Griffiths, among other well-known figures within the field of education, provide additional depth and perspective.
Perhaps most importantly, the programme fosters professional identity. It is not simply about becoming qualified; it is about becoming the kind of teacher who can make a lasting difference.
A Simple Application Process
If you are considering applying, the process is straightforward.
You begin by completing a short online application form. Within two days, a member of the team will contact you to confirm the outcome. If you meet the entry requirements, you will be invited to a call where we will talk through the programme in more detail, answer any questions, and ensure it is the right fit for you.
Following this, you can secure your place with a small deposit of £115. There is also the option to spread the cost over 24 months at £120 per month. Alternatively, if you prefer to pay the full amount upfront, you can complete the remaining balance by 1st September 2026 and receive an additional 5% discount on the total fee.

Final Thoughts
Change in education is inevitable, and often necessary. The developments we are seeing across the sector are, in many ways, a step forward. But they also mark the end of a particular way of doing things.
For many, our current programme has provided a rare combination of quality, flexibility, and accessibility. This final cohort represents the closing chapter of that model.
If you have been thinking about taking the next step into teaching or progressing your existing career, this may be the right moment to do so.
Not because time is running out, but because the opportunity, as it currently exists, is changing.
